System Requirements of Plex Media Server for Ubuntu :
You should have Ubuntu 14.04 or newer. It will work on the recent versions of Ubuntu.
You should have at least 1 GB or more RAM.
Getting Started :
Before, you continue to install the plex media server on Ubuntu, you need to have the dependencies list satisfied for it. Don’t worry, Ubuntu already have the dependencies in its repos so you are fine to just go forward and continue with the installation.
How install Plex Media Server?
Now, it’s really easy. The conventional method if you are not very used to Linux and terminal, you can just go the plex website and download it from there. You can go to this link and download the .deb file from there.
Also, another way can be to download it through terminal which the shell lovers may want to do.
So, launch a terminal in your Ubuntu.
Copy and paste the following command in your terminal.
This command will download the deb file directly from the terminal and save it in the current working directory.
Install Gdebi for installing .deb files :
You can use the usual dpkg -i command for installing this .deb command but if you want something which is more user friendly, then download Gdebi. It is actually a graphical .deb files install for Linux operating systems and is mainly used in Debian and its derivatives. Since, Ubuntu is based on Debian too so you can use that.
So, open a terminal. Then, type the following command in it to download and install gdebi :
sudo apt-get install gdebi
After gdebi is installed. Double click on the .deb file of the plex media server that you downloaded earlier and a graphical window will open. It will check for dependencies of it and then you will have the option to install that .deb file. Just simple click on the install button on the right side.
After that, it will install it. You will have your Plex Media Server installed then.
Then, there comes the configuration of your Plex Media Server.
